Vastu Dosh: Causes, Effects and Solutions: Know effective remedies and improve the quality of your life

What is Vastu Shastra

Vastu Shastra emphasizes the importance of the five natural elements: Prithvi (Earth), Jal (Water), Agni (Fire), Vayu(Wind) & Akash (Sky). It also incorporates the four directions namely; North, South, East and West and their secondary directions include North east, North west, South east, and South west. Vastu is a study that emphasises the distribution and circulation of good energy all around an area. People believe that when buildings are constructed and the spaces arranged and designed as per Vastu, the wellness, richness, and prosperity of the occupants improve.

What is Vastu Dosha

Vastu Doshas by definition are Vastu Shastra originated architectural or spatial distortions of the building that affect the proper flow of energy in the physical structure and are undesirable factors that may bring negative impact on the health, wealth, and peace of the inhabitants. Such imbalances can be attributed to different reasons including a wrong orientation of the building, misorientation of the rooms and existence of barriers that include big trees or objects near the entrance. For instance, an entrance facing the South-West, which is believed to be the negative energy zone, or compound lots and blocks that do not manoeuvre positive energy, leads to Vastu Doshas. And by this definition, Vastu doshas are the consequences that are faced for breaking the rules of Vastu Shastras.

Vastu Doshas and their remedies

Every VastuDosha has its own cure or measure that is directed towards the correction of dosha imbalance and to encourage fresh energy. While treating the North-East Doshas, which are caused by kitchens or heavy storage in that direction, fitting a small decorative fountain and maintaining cleanliness helps. Similar to East Doshas, negative energy or Doshas originating from the South-West are highly probable in case of entrances in the South-West and should be controlled through the usage of heavy curtains or the placing of Vastu pyramids to overcome energy obstructing the entrances. North-West Doshas, which can involve toilets or heavy machinery in that specific location, can be dealt with by trying to control the flow of fresh air and painting the space white or another light color to help counterbalance this energy.

South-East Doshas, which are caused by bedrooms or water elements in the South-East are balanced by placing red lights or bulbs to balance the South-East fire element. There should be no room at the top of the house and no heavy items are to be placed here. Otherwise, central Vastu Doshas will affect the house. In order to correct this, one should place a small pyramid or a crystal in the area. Preferably for doshas facing east there is the possibility of having windows or openings for ventilation in order to let light and energy into the house or placing mirrors to reflect the light and energy in the house. In this regard, in toilets or kitchens, which are considered to create Vastu Dosha in the West, shades of white and other light colors with good ventilation and use of Vastu pyramids and wind chimes are effective. Doshas facing North can be repulsed with mirrors or water bodies can be increased for better energy vibrations.

Some general cures to eliminate Vastu Doshas and bring positivity into a space are using the Vastu pyramids which are said to have an impact of pulling out negative energies from around them.People also use bowls containing sea salt which are kept in the corners of the particular rooms. Salt is said to observe white light and makes them shine brighter, making the rooms brighter.  Decorative mirrors should be placed wisely to reflect good energy and wind chime helps improve the circulation of positive energy. Houseplants clean inhabitants’ air and influence the circulation of qi, while it is also possible to install crystals or gemstones to regulate the energy of some space.
